JDM and Japanese car detailing, at your curb.

A GR Supra in Glen Park. A right-hand-drive Honda Acty kei truck in the Inner Sunset. A 4Runner TRD Pro that had seen a trail. Japanese cars are a big part of what we detail every week, from imports to the Camry you commute in.

An actual JDM import

The Honda Acty, trim brought back.

Kei trucks were built for Japanese roads and Japanese rules, and this one still has the steering wheel on the right. Its black plastic front panel, bumpers and bed trim had faded to chalky grey.

The job was trim restoration: cleaned back to bare plastic, then a two-year trim coating rather than a dressing that runs in the first rain. On an import you can’t easily buy replacement trim for, restoring what is there is the sensible option.

The GR Supra: wash, decon, cabin.

A full exterior wash with decontamination and the interior cleaned. Low, wide cars pick up road film along the sills and behind the wheels, and a tight cockpit shows every bit of dust on the dash.

What Japanese cars tend to need

Same process, different weak spots.

Nothing on a Japanese car needs a secret technique. It needs someone who notices the paint marring, the lens haze and the grey plastic, and prices the fix honestly.

  1. Softer paint, more care

Plenty of Japanese factory paint marks easily, which is why wash swirls show on dark Toyotas and Hondas so quickly. Foam first, a clean mitt per section, and no brushes.

  2. Headlights that yellow

Older Toyota, Lexus and Honda headlight lenses oxidise in the sun. Restoration is $50 per headlight and takes the haze back to clear.

  3. Trim and textured plastic

4Runner bumpers, kei truck panels and Subaru cladding fade grey. Trim restoration puts the black back with a 2-year coating.

  4. Off-road and beach dirt

Sand in the rails and mud on the sills are add-on jobs, priced before you book, not surprises on the day.

From our jobs

Toyota, Lexus, Honda, Subaru, Mazda.

Every car here is one we detailed in the Bay Area. Most Japanese cars we see are daily drivers, and they get the same attention as the Supra.

JDM questions

Asked by owners.

Every question we get

What does JDM actually mean?

Strictly, a car built for the Japanese domestic market and imported, like the right-hand-drive Honda Acty above. Enthusiasts also use it for Japanese performance cars in general. We detail both, and the Japanese daily drivers too.

Do you work on imports and right-hand-drive cars?

Yes. The process is the same; we just take more care with trim and parts that are hard to replace, and we don’t use anything aggressive on original plastics.

Do you detail Nissan, Acura, Infiniti or Mitsubishi?

Yes. The photos on this page are from Toyota, Lexus, Honda, Subaru and Mazda jobs because those are the ones we have documented, not because anything else is off the table.

How is a Supra or a 4Runner priced?

By size, like every car. A Supra is a sedan / coupe; a 4Runner is a midsize SUV; a Tacoma crew cab is large. Paint correction and coatings are quoted.

Can you do my car at a meet or a shoot?

We work at the address you give us, so a detail before a meet or a photo day is fine if the location allows it. Tell us in the booking note.
