⚠ UV Oxidation Damage
Faded, chalky plastic trim makes an otherwise clean car look worn-out. We bring it back to deep factory black and lock it in with a 2-year coating, not a dressing that washes off in the first rain.

Plastic trim doesn’t maintain its color on its own. Without ongoing protection, UV and environmental exposure steadily degrade the surface.
UV radiation breaks down the polymer chains in plastic over time, destroying the pigment-binding structure. The color fades from the surface out, turning rich black into flat gray.
Plastic trim contains oils that give it depth and a subtle sheen. Washing, rain, and sun exposure strip these oils out over years, leaving a dry, chalky-looking surface.
Many drivers use silicone-based trim sprays that look great for a week, then wash off completely. Without a bonded protective coating, the cycle of fading continues.
It is not only cosmetic. Oxidized plastic keeps breaking down, and the longer it sits the harder it is to bring back.
Gray trim draws the eye immediately on any colored vehicle. It makes a fresh detail look incomplete and a good car look older than it is.
Buyers and appraisers notice faded trim, and on a newer car where the trim should still look factory it reads as a car that was let go.
Severely degraded or cracked trim may be beyond chemical restoration. Restoring trim while it’s faded but intact is always the right time to act.
Clean it, degrease it, then put on a product that bonds to the plastic instead of sitting on top of it.
We clean all plastic trim panels thoroughly and strip any silicone dressing, wax, or contamination. The coating won’t bond to a contaminated surface.
Heavily oxidized or chalky trim may receive a light abrasive treatment to remove the degraded surface layer and expose fresh plastic underneath.
We apply a durable plastic trim coating in controlled passes. The coating penetrates the surface and bonds to the plastic, restoring deep black color.
The coating is allowed to cure. We inspect every trim panel for even coverage and uniform color before finishing. Any uneven areas are corrected immediately.
A Honda Acty parked in the Inner Sunset — a Japanese kei truck, right-hand drive, with a flat cargo bed where a boot would be. It is a 660cc import rather than a compact pickup, and almost every piece of black plastic on it is exposed: the trim strip under the front badge, the mirrors, the door surrounds and the bed furniture. Twenty-one frames on file, four matched before-and-after pairs.

This is Step 01 on this page, photographed on the job: the front trim strip below the Honda badge being cleaned by hand before anything is applied to it. Coating goes onto bare, degreased plastic or it does not bond.
A kei truck has more exposed black plastic per square foot than most cars on this list, which is why the difference reads across the whole vehicle rather than on one bumper.
The front trim strip and badge surround, finished.
Door mirror and A-pillar — two of the pieces that fade first on any vehicle.
The bed corner and hinge post, cleaned. The surface rust on the steelwork here is the same in the before frames — it was left alone.
Every frame from this job, including the ones that did not make this page, is in the Honda Acty kei truck case study.
