The Problem

What Happens to Leather Without Care

Leather is a hide. Let it dry out and it does what any dried-out hide does: it stiffens and then it cracks.

Body Oil Buildup

The places you touch most, so headrests, seat bolsters, and the steering wheel, collect skin oils that darken and harden the surface. Over time they break down the structural fibers.

UV Fading and Drying

UV radiation bleaches leather dye and strips natural oils from the surface. The result is a faded, stiff appearance that accelerates cracking at stress points like seat creases and headrests.

Surface Cracking

Cracks in leather are irreversible damage. Once the surface has cracked through, no amount of conditioning brings it back. Everything useful happens before that point.

Why It Matters

Cracked Leather Is the Expensive Version

Reupholstering or replacing a cracked seat panel costs far more than keeping the leather conditioned in the first place. This is the cheap end of that problem.

Cracking Is Permanent

Surface cracking cannot be undone. Conditioning leather while it is still only dry costs a fraction of replacing a panel once it has split.

UV Protection

UV exposure fades leather dye and dries the surface rapidly. The protective coating we apply after conditioning provides UV resistance that dramatically slows fading and surface degradation.

Supple, clean leather seats are one of the first things buyers check. Cracked or heavily soiled leather is one of the most expensive interior flaws to remediate before a sale.

Clean, Condition, Protect

Three steps that address the leather’s past, present, and future in one appointment.

STEP 01

Leather-Safe Clean

We clean all leather surfaces with a pH-balanced leather cleaner and a soft detailing brush. This lifts body oils, surface soiling, and contamination without stripping the leather’s finish.

STEP 02

Condition

We apply a quality leather conditioner to all cleaned surfaces and work it into the leather. The conditioner restores moisture, improves suppleness, and reduces the risk of cracking at stress points.

STEP 03

UV Protectant Coat

A UV protective coating is applied after conditioning. This seals the conditioner into the leather and provides a barrier against UV fading and surface drying on future exposure.

STEP 04

Final Inspect

We inspect every leather surface in good light for missed areas or uneven conditioning. Any sections that need a second pass get it before we finish.

Common Questions

Every 6 months is the general recommendation for daily-driven vehicles. Cars that sit in the sun or get used hard do better on a shorter cycle. If the leather already feels dry to the touch, it is overdue.

Minor surface cracks can be improved but not eliminated through conditioning. Deep cracks that have broken through the surface layer are permanent damage that requires leather restoration or replacement to address. Prevention is far more cost-effective.

Yes. The cleaning and UV protection steps work on synthetic leather (leatherette, pleather, and similar materials). Conditioning is slightly less critical for synthetics than genuine leather, but cleaning and UV protection still extend the life of synthetic leather significantly.

Not with the products we use. We avoid silicone-heavy conditioners that create a slippery film. Our conditioner and protectant absorb into the leather and dry to a natural, non-greasy finish that does not affect grip or seating comfort.
